The foyer not only announces a pilot-house theme, but it also introduces the blend of Victorian, Nouveau, and Deco styles that characterize the rest of your stay. A crystal fixture in a gilded, damask ceiling suggests those cultures’ refined alternative to the rustic, industrial world of Portland’s working sea port. The river frieze is by Bradbury, whereas the Nouveau-textured wallpaper comes from the historic vendor, Anaglypta. We worked our color wheel especially hard to come up with a soft violet opposite to the sundown yellow in the frieze. The beautiful Vitruvian Wave border at the chair rail was printed by Bradbury specifically for Wheelhouse, silver on kraft paper.
